Hey Russ l know you’re busy but could you give me more information about the ISS?
Cbender
Sure! The ISS is the International Space Station. It flies about 248 miles (400 km) above the Earth. And it zips so fast that it goes around our planet every 90 minutes! The big space station travels from west to east as it orbits Earth. What else would you like to know?
Russell Kahn
Hello Russ! I'm from Turkiye, please send me a message. My name is Ipek for my friends pleaseeeee!
Ipek
Hello, Ipek! I am from the United States but hope to visit Turkiye soon. I think it is a beautiful country! Say "Hi!" to all your friends for me. Thanks for writing, and take care! πŸ‘‹

Hi Russ! I am so glad that guy saved the turtles. Do you think so too, Russ?
Zoey
Nice to meet you, Zoey. YES, I am so glad that Carlos Mallo Molina protected an ocean area by the Canary Islands. That will help many animals that live there, including sea turtles. 🐒
Russell Kahn
Hi, Russ. I was wondering, how do you catch up on all the information? I know that there is YouTube, Google, and more resources. But how do you get your information to all these articles? Also, happy Earth Day!!!
Mariana
Happy Earth Day, Mariana! I look at lots of news sources every day. There are so many newspapers that share the news about cities, states, countries, and the world. Many of them share the news online. I look through multiple newspapers to find out what reporters are saying about events. And to learn more, I look for information from trusted sources. I even reach out to experts and talk directly to them to hear what they think about what is going on!

If I want to be a doctor when I'm older what should I study?
Ava
Well, there are many kinds of doctors, so there are lots of different areas you could focus on for studying! Doctors use a lot of math and science, so those topics would be good to study. You can also study anatomy β€” that's the study of the body and its parts. Being a doctor is an important job! Good luck!

Hello, Russ. I have a question. Why was the Titanic called unsinkable?
Issa
Hello, Issa. People called the Titanic unsinkable because they thought it would never sink! The ship had 16 compartments in the bottom that could hold water if the ship got a leak. However, those compartments didn't seal all the way to the top. So, when the Titanic hit the iceberg, water flooded into several compartments. Then those compartments overflowed into other compartments, causing the ship to sink.
Russell Kahn
Hey, Russ. How did the Titanic sink?
Kaylee
The RMS Titanic struck an iceberg on April 14, 1912. The crew members tried to steer the ship away, but they reacted too late. The ice tore holes in the side of the ship, and water started pouring in. As the compartments filled up, the ship tilted, sank, and even broke in half.

Hi, Russ. Why are they trying to bring the dire wolf back, and how dangerous is the dire wolf?
Makynlee
That's a great question, Makynlee. Some experts think that science has an important job. It can bring back creatures that have gone extinct, ESPECIALLY if humans are what caused the creatures to disappear. Others worry about how that might affect humans and the environment. Dire wolves died out more than 10 thousand years ago, so there's still a lot about the creatures that researchers don't know. However, scientists ask big questions just like yours every day! 🐺

Hi. How long would it take to walk a normal marathon?
Howard
That depends on how fast you're walking! A marathon is 26.2 miles (42.2 km) long. Let's say you're walking at a speed of 3 miles per hour (4.8 kph). That is about the speed of an average adult. In that case, it would take you nearly nine hours to finish the marathon! 🦢 🦢

Hi, Russ. How many people live on Earth?
Thomas
H, Thomas! There are more than 8 BILLION people living on Earth today! πŸ˜²πŸ˜΄πŸ˜€πŸ˜–β˜ΊοΈ

Hi, Russ, I’m Mini. I like the article you wrote about the Easter envelope. Can you write another one about another holiday with some fun crafts to do?
Mini
Hi, Mini! Thanks for sharing your thoughts and ideas with me! We have a ton of holiday crafts you can do. Try typing "craft" into the Search to find them. We'll keep sharing more crafts for upcoming holidays! Are there any holidays in particular you'd like to make a craft for?

Hi, Russ, I'm Demba. I would like to know if there are any animals that have 8 legs just like a spider!!
Demba
What an interesting question, Demba! Scorpions, mites, and ticks all have eight legs! πŸ¦‚

Hi, Russ. Are penguins birds? Thank you for sending me information.
Kelly
Hi, Kelly. Penguins are birds! They have flippers instead of wings, so they spend their time swimming through the water instead of flying through the air.

Hello, Russ! I LOVE THE TITANIC ARTICLE! But I have two more questions. The article said that 750 passengers were rescued. Are some of them still alive today? And my 2nd question is... did anybody find things inside the Titanic? [Plates, toys, books, etc.]
Shannon
Hello, Shannon! I'm so glad you enjoyed that article. The Titanic sunk 113 years ago, so there are no survivors that are still alive today. The oldest survivor was Millvina Dean. She died in 2009 at the age of 97. Experts have discovered items in the Titanic wreck. They've found objects like jewelry, decorations, and binoculars.

Hi, Russ. Why is Tax Day a thing?
Lloyd
Hi, Lloyd. In the United States, Tax Day is the day taxes are due. Those are payments to the government. Taxes help fund things like roads, schools, and libraries. You can learn more about the day in the News-O-Matic article "Time for Taxes!"

I find the dog article interesting and sad. I have a dog of my own and I love him. Now I am worried about what he might be affecting.
Lilly
I also thought that article was interesting, Lilly. I think it's really great that you're thinking about how your dog might affect the environment. Like the article said, dogs are great for humans! And there are ways you can help keep your dog's effect on nature low. Pick up anything that your dog leaves behind, and try to keep your pet away from wild animals.

Hi, Russ. I would like to know if the Sun, the Moon, and the Earth are related.
Demba
Well, we know for sure that they're all neighbors in the same solar system! But scientists actually do have a pretty cool theory about the Earth and the Moon. They think that, when our world was first forming about 4.5 billion years ago, something BIG smacked into the Earth. The impact sent debris out into space, and our Moon may have formed from that debris! 🌝

Are sharks blind?
Willi
Well, there is a species of shark CALLED the "blind shark!" It's a kind of carpet shark. The creature swims along the ocean floor! But it's not actually blind. In fact, many species of sharks actually have GREAT eyesight! They use their powerful peepers to hunt in the dark depths of the ocean. πŸ‘€πŸ¦ˆ

Hey, Russ! why is Pluto not a planet anymore?
Savannah
That's a great question, Savannah! After all, Pluto WAS called a planet until 2006. So, what changed? Scientists came up with a list of rules. EIGHT planets, including Earth, follow those rules. But Pluto failed one. It needed to be big enough to knock out all the other bodies in its neighborhood called the Kuiper Belt. There are LOTS of rocks floating around Pluto right now. So, scientists decided that it was a "dwarf planet" instead! 🌌
Russell Kahn
Hi, Russ. I believe you have made a math error. 2028 + 4 years equals 2032, not 2034. This was featured in the image of the US map in the Olympics article. Thanks.
Reagan
Hi, Reagan! Thanks for making sure our work is accurate! The map in that article DOES say that Salt Lake City, Utah, will host the Olympic Games in 2034. However, that's actually not a mistake! The city will host the WINTER Olympics, which are set for 2034! The 2032 SUMMER Olympics will be in Brisbane, Australia! πŸƒ
