Hi, Russ, I have a question. How do teeth get yellow? I know its because sugar makes them yellow, but what scientific reasons explain how your teeth get yellow?

Maddy

Hi, Maddy! Teeth can turn yellow for several reasons. Foods and drinks can leave stains on their surface. Bacteria in your mouth also feed on sugar and make acids that damage tooth enamel, the hard outer layer. As enamel wears away, the yellowish layer underneath becomes easier to see! 🦷

What's good, Russ. Can you tell me about Japan and why their trees are pink?

Kai

Good question, Kai! Japan is famous for its cherry blossom trees. Each spring, these trees bloom with pink or white flowers. Natural pigments give the petals their pink color. The blossoms usually last only a week or two. People across Japan celebrate by gathering under the flowering trees! 🌸

Hi, Russ. Why are pumpkins orange?

Ananya

Hi, Ananya. Pumpkins get their orange color from a natural pigment called carotene. When pumpkins are young, they often look green because they contain chlorophyll, the same pigment that makes leaves green. As pumpkins ripen, the green color fades, revealing the orange carotene underneath. That's why many pumpkins turn orange! 🎃
