Write to Russ
Hi, Russ, Iβm Mini. I like the article you wrote about the Easter envelope. Can you write another one about another holiday with some fun crafts to do?
Mini
Hi, Mini! Thanks for sharing your thoughts and ideas with me! We have a ton of holiday crafts you can do. Try typing "craft" into the Search to find them. We'll keep sharing more crafts for upcoming holidays! Are there any holidays in particular you'd like to make a craft for?

Hi, Russ, I'm Demba. I would like to know if there are any animals that have 8 legs just like a spider!!
Demba
What an interesting question, Demba! Scorpions, mites, and ticks all have eight legs! π¦

Hi, Russ. Are penguins birds? Thank you for sending me information.
Kelly
Hi, Kelly. Penguins are birds! They have flippers instead of wings, so they spend their time swimming through the water instead of flying through the air.

Hello, Russ! I LOVE THE TITANIC ARTICLE! But I have two more questions. The article said that 750 passengers were rescued. Are some of them still alive today? And my 2nd question is... did anybody find things inside the Titanic? [Plates, toys, books, etc.]
Shannon
Hello, Shannon! I'm so glad you enjoyed that article. The Titanic sunk 113 years ago, so there are no survivors that are still alive today. The oldest survivor was Millvina Dean. She died in 2009 at the age of 97. Experts have discovered items in the Titanic wreck. They've found objects like jewelry, decorations, and binoculars.

Hi, Russ. Why is Tax Day a thing?
Lloyd
Hi, Lloyd. In the United States, Tax Day is the day taxes are due. Those are payments to the government. Taxes help fund things like roads, schools, and libraries. You can learn more about the day in the News-O-Matic article "Time for Taxes!"

I find the dog article interesting and sad. I have a dog of my own and I love him. Now I am worried about what he might be affecting.
Lilly
I also thought that article was interesting, Lilly. I think it's really great that you're thinking about how your dog might affect the environment. Like the article said, dogs are great for humans! And there are ways you can help keep your dog's effect on nature low. Pick up anything that your dog leaves behind, and try to keep your pet away from wild animals.

Hi, Russ. I would like to know if the Sun, the Moon, and the Earth are related.
Demba
Well, we know for sure that they're all neighbors in the same solar system! But scientists actually do have a pretty cool theory about the Earth and the Moon. They think that, when our world was first forming about 4.5 billion years ago, something BIG smacked into the Earth. The impact sent debris out into space, and our Moon may have formed from that debris! π

Are sharks blind?
Willi
Well, there is a species of shark CALLED the "blind shark!" It's a kind of carpet shark. The creature swims along the ocean floor! But it's not actually blind. In fact, many species of sharks actually have GREAT eyesight! They use their powerful peepers to hunt in the dark depths of the ocean. ππ¦

Hey, Russ! why is Pluto not a planet anymore?
Savannah
That's a great question, Savannah! After all, Pluto WAS called a planet until 2006. So, what changed? Scientists came up with a list of rules. EIGHT planets, including Earth, follow those rules. But Pluto failed one. It needed to be big enough to knock out all the other bodies in its neighborhood called the Kuiper Belt. There are LOTS of rocks floating around Pluto right now. So, scientists decided that it was a "dwarf planet" instead! π
Russell Kahn
Hi, Russ. I believe you have made a math error. 2028 + 4 years equals 2032, not 2034. This was featured in the image of the US map in the Olympics article. Thanks.
Reagan
Hi, Reagan! Thanks for making sure our work is accurate! The map in that article DOES say that Salt Lake City, Utah, will host the Olympic Games in 2034. However, that's actually not a mistake! The city will host the WINTER Olympics, which are set for 2034! The 2032 SUMMER Olympics will be in Brisbane, Australia! π

Why are they thinking about getting rid of the penny?
Beckett
There are two main arguments, Beckett. One is that it costs MORE than pennies are worth to make them. The other is that people don't actually USE pennies all that much. You can read more about the issue in the article "Goodbye to the Penny?" What do you think? Should the penny stay, or should it go? πͺ
Russell Kahn
hey Russ! why is Pluto not a planet anymore? ππ
Svjeffery01
Well, space scientists now call Pluto a "dwarf planet." That is because Pluto is so small (even smaller than our Moon). Because Pluto is so tiny, it has not cleared out all the rocks and gas in the area of space. But I still think Pluto is beautiful! π€©

Russ it's been like forever and you never answer your messages. Are you okay? I bet you're a robot. I'm just bored.
Memorie
Sorry, Memorie! I try to answer as many questions as I can. I am a real human who is working on the News-O-Matic stories every day. I am okay, but thanks for asking! Hope you can fight that boredom by reading some fun articles!

β€ Hi, Russ. What is the 5th planet from the Sun?
Liliya
Hi, Liliya. The fifth planet from the Sun is Jupiter. That planet is HUGE! It's the largest planet in our solar system by far.
Russell Kahn
Hi, Russ! I found the Dire Wolf article very interesting! Itβs amazing what science can do. And the names Romulus, Remus, and Khaleesi are very cute! I was maybe wondering if you could keep us updated on the pups, if possible. Thank you and have a good day!
Aurelia
Hi, Aurelia! I thought that article was cool, too. I'll keep an eye out for any big news about the pups! πΊ

Hi, Russ. Iβm a big hockey fan. Is there a article about Ovechkin breaking the goals record?
Charliea
There is an article all about that, Charliea! It's called "The GOAT of Goals!" You should check it out. π

Hi, Russ. I was wondering if you have heard about Sonic the Hedgehog, and I was wondering if you could make a thing about Sonic's history. I'm a HUGE FAN of Sonic's games.
Daniel
Hi, Daniel! I have heard about Sonic the Hedgehog β he's a cool character. You're in luck! News-O-Matic does have an article about Sonic's history. It was to celebrate his birthday a few years ago. The article is called "30 Years of Sonic!" Let me know what you think.

Hi, Russ, this is Emery. The book you made about libraries is amazing. I learned that libraries can have graphic novels. And I also have a question, do librarians move everywhere to see different libraries?
Emery
Hi, Emery! I'm so glad you enjoyed the articles about libraries and librarians! Librarians at one library do work together with librarians at other libraries, but usually they stay in one place to help serve the people in one spot.
Russell Kahn
Hey, Russ. Do you know about Alysa Liu
Pascucci
Hey! I do know about Alysa Liu! She is the World Figure Skating Champion. Did you see that News-O-Matic has an article about her? It's called "A Comeback on Ice!" You should check it out. βΈοΈ
