Hello, Zachary. I love hearing that readers like you are excited about the drawings in the News Room! I get so many drawings from readers each day, so I can't share all of them. But I do see every one! Drawings related to recent articles are more likely to make it into the News Room. 🎨

Hey, Russ! It is Hudson. Who invented playgrounds?
Hudson
Hey, Hudson! What a fun question! People have been running, jumping, climbing, and playing outside for thousands of years. But a German man named Friedrich Froebel is considered the inventor of the modern playgrounds that we know today. He invented them in the 1880s.

Hey, Russ. It's Catharine. Who created the Nintendo Switch? Have a nice day.
Catherine
Hey, Catherine. A whole team of people worked to create the Switch at the Nintendo company. One leader of the team was Yoshiaki Koizumi. I hope you have a nice day too!
Russell Kahn
Hey, Russ. How come in New York school stops in June, but in other places it stops in May?
Christina
That's a great question, Christina! In the United States, there isn't one single rule from the federal government that says when schools should close for summer break. Instead, schools across the country are organized into groups called "districts." Those districts have their own leaders, including administrators and superintendents. Those leaders make important decisions for schools in their district, including when schools close for summer break! ☀️

Hey, Russ. Can you make an article about AI and how it is affecting our world. I think it is a very important subject, as it is a big part of our lives.
Rachel
Thanks for your suggestion, Rachel! Artificial intelligence is definitely an important topic. People are learning new ways to use this powerful tech. They are also making new rules about AI. If you haven't already, I'd recommend taking a look at the article "Deal Unlocked! — Game Actors End Strike." Many people who work as voice actors went on strike party because they were worried about how AI would affect their jobs. You'll definitely see AI pop up again in future News-O-Matic stories as well! 🤖

Hi, Russ. This is Harper. Could you try to write a story about how music is made? Thanks!
Harper
That's a neat idea, Harper! I'll look into it! In the meantime, the News-O-Matic team actually spoke to a jazz musician named Wynton Marsalis. We published a two-part article where he answered questions from readers just like you! Try typing "Real Jobs! Jazz Star" into the Search to read what he had to say! 🎺

Hey, Russ. How do fish breathe underwater?
Emelyn
Good question, Emelyn. Fish breathe underwater using their gills. They take in water through their mouths. Then, the water passes over the gills. The gills can take oxygen out of the water and put into to the bloodstream of the fish.

Hey, Russ! Can you tell me what is the most popular gaming console?
Daniel
Hey, Daniel! The best selling gaming console was the Play Station 5. It sold 77.7 million devices. Nintendo also had some very popular hand-held gaming consoles. That includes the Switch. You can read about the sales of the recent Switch 2 in News-O-Matic's new article, "Switch Sales Soar!" Check it out! 🎮

Hi, Russ! I'm Eliana and I have a question for you. Why does the ocean cover most of the world? Shouldn't land because people live on land and not in the ocean?
Eliana
Hey there, Eliana! It's certainly true that humans live on land and NOT in the water. However, Earth isn't just for humans! Oceans are important ecosystems for many different kinds of plants and animals. In fact, most of our world's waters remain unexplored by science. We still have a lot to learn about what's down there! 🌊👀🌊

Hi, Russ. I was wondering, how do bears hibernate? I know that they eat a lot before, but how do they go into a sleep without getting bored?
Sofia
Hi, Sofia! Bears slow their bodies down and lower their temperature during the cold winter months. Then, they enter a state like sleep called torpor. They move around a little in their dens during this time. But they don't really get bored because they're resting and saving their energy!
Russell Kahn
Can you do more state things? Like last week it was Nevada.
Zach
Yes! News-O-Matic spends all school year covering state stories. We still have a few more states to get to, including North Carolina this week! Stay tuned for more state stories this year -- and in the year to come!
