Earth Day is important. Earth Day is all about taking care of the Earth. It is important to take care of the Earth because there are a lot of living things on Earth. If we don't start cleaning up the Earth, animals will eat the trash and die. But if we do take care of the Earth, it'll be really helpful to the police and the government.
Jackson
I agree: Earth Day is very important! Taking care of the Earth and cleaning up our trash is definitely helpful to many living creatures all over the planet. We want to keep animals safe and healthy for sure! Thanks for sharing your thoughts with me, Jackson. 🌏

Hi, Russ! I need help! I have a question! What is a light-year? I don't know because I have never been taught! Can you teach me? THANKS!!!!
McKinley
Light travels at a certain speed, McKinley. When you turn a lamp on, it takes time for the light from the bulb to reach your eye. However, light moves VERY fast -- so it doesn't seem like it takes any time at all. Light travels 186,000 miles (300,000 km) every second! So, a light-year is a distance, not a time. A light-year is the distance that light travels in one year.

Hey, Russ! I have a few questions. Why and how do rainbows shine?
Skeez
Hey, Skeez! Rainbows come from light and water. Light is made up of wavelengths that show colors. When light from the Sun hits drops of water, the water can split up those wavelengths. That separates the colors so you can see them in the form of a rainbow. Raindrops in the sky, splashes from a fountain or waterfall, or even spray from a hose can cause rainbows to form. β˜€οΈπŸ’§πŸŒˆ

Hi, Russ. Why is there so much rain in Dubai? Thank you,
Mrs. Ribaric's Class 401
Hi, Mrs. Ribaric's Class 401! Many experts say that all of the heavy rain in Dubai is caused by climate change. You can read News-O-Matic's recent article "Heavy Rain Floods Desert City" to learn more about the flooding in Dubai.

How are ants edible? Do you eat ants? And are they good for my health?
Daniella
Many living things are edible, such as chicken, fish, and even ants! Ants have a nutrient called protein, just like eggs or milk. The insects could be good for your health, but I wouldn't snack on ones you find crawling around. I haven't eaten ants, though many people around the world find ant dishes yummy. Did you read about them in News-O-Matic's article, "Ants for Dinner!"? 🐜
Russell Kahn
Can you find books about dinosaurs and volcanoes? They're my favorite.

Hi, my name is Molly. I live in Ontario, Canada. I like to figure skate, read, write, swim, play piano and other instruments, and play softball. I have a few questions. First, if there is a North and South America, how come only people in the USA are called Americans? Also, do you think one day you could make an article about the Ottawa team in the PWHL? Sorry, I hope that’s not too much for you to answer.
Molly
No need to apologize, Molly! Those are great questions. The USA stands for the "United States of AMERICA," so "Americans" usually refers to people from that country. We will write about the PWHL when the regular season ends in May. Do you think Ottawa will make the playoffs? Thanks for telling me about your interests. I enjoyed learning about you! ⛸️ πŸ“– πŸ“ 🎹 πŸ₯Ž
Russell Kahn
Hello Russ, How are you doing? Did you know the Eiffel Tower can be 15 cm taller during the summer? It's due to thermal expansion. As the iron heats up, the particles gain kinetic energy and take up more space. Isn’t that so cool?
Daniel
I had no idea about that! Thanks so much for sharing your cool fact about the Eiffel Tower, Daniel. I love learning something new!
