Women’s History Month Honors Teachers

March is a month to celebrate women who inspire and educate.

March brings flowers and spring. It’s also Women’s History Month. That’s a time to celebrate women who have shaped our world!

The event started as Women’s History Week in the 1970s. Then, in 1987, the United States started Women’s History Month. Every March, there’s a theme. A group called the National Women’s History Alliance (NWHA) chooses the theme. In 2025, that theme “Moving Forward Together! Women Educating and Inspiring .”

People will celebrate women who have helped in education, leadership, and . Those women have inspired people of all ages to learn and grow. The theme honors teachers, principals, librarians, and .

Throughout history, women have played a huge role in shaping the world through education. News-O-Matic will have five articles about inspiring educators who have made their mark. They will include Benigna Zinzendorf. She created the first boarding school for girls in America. Zinzendorf started her school in 1742. Her school in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, later became Moravian University.

Another history-making teacher is Anne Sullivan. She taught Helen Keller how to communicate. Keller became blind and deaf as a baby. Sullivan taught Keller how to connect objects to words. With Sullivan, Keller attended school. Keller graduated from college in 1904.

The NWHA hopes that sharing stories of educators will inspire more young girls to education as a career — and make the job more fair for the future. Today, about 3 out of 4 teachers in the United States are women.

Women have made lasting impacts on every generation. They have helped create a world where ideas are shared.
