Do you use tech for school? Your classroom probably has a computer to help you learn. As (AI) is becoming more popular, tech is changing.
One way that teachers are using AI is through games. These games grow students’ skills. AI-powered puzzles help learners grow their problem-solving skills too.
Other AI tools help teachers make lessons. AI can even speed up grading. It can learning to fit each student.
In 2023, a group called Forbes Advisor asked 500 in the United States about AI. More than half of the teachers said they used AI in the classroom. Still, many people have concerns.
A very common concern comes from a kind of cheating called plagiarism. Plagiarism is when you take someone else’s work or ideas. You pretend that they are your own. Cheating like this existed before AI got popular. But AI has created new methods for plagiarism.
The Forbes Advisor study found that plagiarism is teachers’ biggest concern with AI. Some AI, like the common tool ChatGPT, are called AI. These types of AI can create new images or texts.
ChatGPT and similar AI can still be very helpful. However, using AI incorrectly could be cheating. Teachers said that students using AI to write assignments was the most common kind of AI cheating.
“Using AI to complete assignments only hurts yourself!” said Owen Lee. He’s a teacher in Toledo, Ohio. He told News-O-Matic, “Assignments are designed to help your brain grow and function.”
Abby Winters also spoke to News-O-Matic. She teaches high school English. She believes that using AI incorrectly could impact students later in life. Winters said AI could be a “way out for students when they do not want to complete their work.” She worries that could create a that hurts students.
Still, Lee and Winters agree that AI can be helpful. Lee says that AI is a good tool for coming up with ideas. Winters explains that the tech can help information.
Lee had one last thought. “You are facing new challenges in school. Just focus on doing your best,” he said. “Your teachers will see and reward that!”
