U.S. President Joe Biden gives his State of the Union address.

U.S. President Joe Biden stood in the U.S. Capitol. He looked out at lawmakers on March 7. Millions of Americans were watching from home. It was all for the State of the Union .

That speech is a tradition. George Washington was the first U.S. president. In 1790, he gave the first State of the Union. Washington talked about the nation and his plans. Now, presidents do this almost every year.

Biden’s message was that “the state of our union is strong and getting stronger.” He spoke about many topics.

One was business. The president said the is doing better. He said the nation has gotten 15 million new jobs.

Some important issues are linked — like the economy and education. “To remain the strongest economy, we need the best education system,” Biden said. “I want to give every child a good start.”

Biden spoke about the world too. He talked about wars. Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022. Fighting is still going. The United States has given money and weapons to Ukraine. Biden wants to send more. He said, “If the United States walks away, it will put Ukraine at risk.”

Biden also spoke about fighting between Israel and a group called Hamas in Gaza. He said he would order an emergency mission. The U.S. military will put a pier on Gaza’s coast. That way ships can bring food and medicine.

Biden’s speech lasted for just over an hour. In the end, he talked about the people he serves. “I believe in you, the American people,” Biden said. “You’re the reason I’ve never been more .”

“Let’s remember who we are,” the president added. “We are the United States of America.”
