Every July 4, the United States sees red, white, and blue. It’s Independence Day! You can rock America’s colors right on your wrist. Follow the instructions to make a set of bracelets with stars and stripes. When these beaded stack on your arm, they look like the U.S. flag!
What You’ll Need
*Red, white, and blue beads (both regular and star-shaped)
*String or elastic string
*Scissors
Steps
1. Wrap a piece of string around your wrist. Cut it about 2 inches (5 cm) longer than it takes to fully wrap around.
2. Choose any bead. Thread the string through the hole until there’s about 1 inch (2.5 cm) hanging out. Then, tie a knot. Double or triple knot it to make sure it doesn’t come undone. Tying on this end bead will stop your other beads from falling off the string!
TIP: A real U.S. flag has 13 stripes. Since 13 bracelets would be a lot on your wrist, we’ll do five or six instead. Three will be solid red or white. The other three will have a blue patch with white stars. If you don’t have star-shaped beads, regular white beads will do too!
3. String on beads for your top bracelet. blue beads and white stars for about half of the piece of string. Then, use red beads for the rest of the bracelet. Tie the bracelet closed or have someone else tie it on your wrist.
4. For the third bracelet, repeat Steps 1–3.
5. For the second bracelet, use the same method. But instead of using red for half of the string, use white.
6. The remaining two or three bracelets are either all red or all white. String on the colored beads in the same way as before. These will be like the solid stripes of the flag.
7. When you put your bangles on, start with one that has blue and red. Follow that with a blue-and-white bracelet — and then comes a blue-and-red one. For the stripes, put on a solid white bracelet and then a red bracelet. You can make as many stripes as you’d like!
When you’re done, you can show off your flag bracelets with a wave!
