Other countries will vote for leaders. The world will see about 50 national elections. That makes 2024 the biggest election year in history! Many nations will choose presidents. Those include Finland, Mali, Senegal, Venezuela, Rwanda, and Romania.

Mexico is set to elect its first female president in June. 2024 is also an election year in Russia and Ukraine. But those countries are at war. Ukraine’s election will likely be .

NATO is a group of 31 countries that protect each other. Just like any team, the NATO members need to practice together. Starting in February, the group will hold Steadfast Defender. That’s the largest military exercise in decades. This event will be in European nations, including Germany and Poland. More than 40,000 troops will train in helicopters, on ships, and on the ground.

A year has 365 days… or does it? This number is different for about every fourth year. 2020 had 366 days, and 2024 will too! That’s because it is a leap year. Leap years get an extra day to keep the calendar matched with the Sun. In most years, February has 28 days. Leap years get a February 29!

The Ciel Tower is going up in the United Arab Emirates. The skyscraper has 82 floors and rises to about 1,197 feet (365 m) tall in the city of Dubai. When the building opens in 2024, it will be the tallest hotel!

Indonesia’s New Capital
Jakarta is the capital of Indonesia, but it has some issues. It is crowded, it has pollution, and it is slowly sinking. Officials decided to move the capital. The new capital will be a city called Nusantara. Workers have to build it. Nusantara may not be ready until 2045. But officials plan to hold an for it on August 17, 2024 — Indonesia’s Independence Day.
