HAR: When I was 3, my parents put me in a class at my local dance studio in Toronto, Canada. I fell in love with it. I stuck with it throughout high school.

My parents realized that I might want to dance after high school. They found this school called Alvin Ailey. It was based in New York City. We decided to give it a try. I did the summer back in 2012. And then I fell in love with the city. I fell in love with the teachers. And then here I am today.

NOM: What’s your favorite thing about being a dancer?
HAR: Performing onstage. It’s a bit nerve-wracking sometimes. But I love telling a story for the audience.

NOM: And what are the more challenging parts about being a dancer?
HAR: When you get super tired, and your body starts to break down. It’s really a mental game at that point. You have to take some time for yourself. Take some time for your body to rest. Remind yourself why you fell in love with dance. When you’re burnt out and tired, surround yourself with supportive people.

NOM: What achievements are you most proud of?
HAR: Well, this is my dream company ever since I was little. So I’m proud to be making my dream a reality.

Since I’m — I’m Canadian — I had to go through a hard process of getting my artist’s . I needed it to stay in the States. That was really . I’m really proud of getting my visa.

NOM: Do you have any advice for kids who are interested in dance?
HAR: Just go for it. It’s never too late to start anything new. Once you’re doing it, continue to work hard, to push yourself, and to really believe in yourself. Because you can really do anything you put your mind to. Never give up on your hopes and dreams.
