Future Cities: Made by Bot!

An architect uses AI technology to design skyscrapers.

Many skyscrapers rise up with steel and glass. They often have straight sides and big windows. But what if buildings of the future were more in tune with the Earth? Towers could have strange shapes and plant-covered walls. Apartments could be built into giant tree trunks!

Manas Bhatia of New Delhi, India, came up with designs for these buildings. But he didn’t do it alone. Bhatia imagined the structures. Then, a computer program made the images!

Bhatia used artificial intelligence (AI) to put his thoughts into pictures. AI is technology that can learn, almost like a person does. Bhatia made his designs with Midjourney. That AI program that turns words into images.

One of Bhatia’s projects was “AI x Future Cities.” It imagined an city. Bhatia used phrases like “futuristic city,” “ ,” “apartments made of algae,” and “air towers.” In response, Midjourney created pictures of white buildings. The structures were covered in plants. Those plants would help keep the city’s air clean.

“Architecture plays a key role in making the world eco-friendly,” Bhatia told News-O-Matic. The architect shared some ways that buildings can help the planet. They can use materials that are better for the Earth. And they can be designed in a way that controls temperature. That cuts the need for air conditioning.

Bhatia did another project called “Symbiotic Architecture.” He used words like “hollowed,” “tree,” and “giant.” The pictures show big tree trunks with windows! Those tree apartments would be able to grow and breathe.

The pictures may not always turn out how Bhatia expects. But sometimes that’s a good thing. It means the architect can get results he never could have imagined!

Bhatia can imagine a greener world though. And he believes young people are key. “We need to educate kids on global problems, such as rising temperatures and climate change,” Bhatia said.

The architect shared this message with kids: “Respect nature. Plant new trees and save the existing ones. You must give back to the planet that is your home.”
