Skyscrapers come in all shapes and sizes. But most tall buildings get thinner at the top. A design for a new building is different. It gets wider at the top!
This “upside-down” building is the Affirmation Tower. It would rise high in New York City. In fact, it would be the second-tallest building in America! Yet it’s only an idea. Officials must approve it before construction can begin.
This tower would be in an area of New York called Hudson Yards. There are already skyscrapers there. Those include two super-tall buildings. Yet this project would tower above them all. The Affirmation Tower would be 1,663 feet (507 m) tall!
This sky-high building would have hotels, offices, a theater, and a skating rink. Visitors could stand on an observation deck. Yet this wouldn’t be just another tower. It would be the city’s first skyscraper built by Black people.
The of the Affirmation Tower is David Adjaye. The development firm has a Black leader — Don Peebles. The Affirmation Tower would also have an NAACP office. That group supports Black .
This skyscraper may look impossible. But it shows that anything is possible.
