New Year’s can be an exciting time. There are celebrations, new goals, and a fresh start. Now the ball has dropped, and the confetti has been swept up. It’s time to get 2022 started. Plan for the year ahead with this pop-up calendar craft!
What You’ll Need
• Cardstock or colored paper (Use any colors. But make sure it’s light enough to draw on!)
• Scissors
• Pencil
• Markers
• Glue or double-sided tape
• Optional: 2022 calendar printouts
Steps
1. Prep Your Papers
Choose six pages of colored paper. Fold each in half as if you’re making a card. Flip the folded paper so the open side is
on the left and the folded side is vertical on the right.
2. Time to Pop Up!
Draw half of an oval along the folded side of your paper, in the middle. Erase the left side of your oval so there’s only a top and bottom left. Cut along those two lines. Open your “card” and push the oval up from behind. Now, fold the sides of the oval. Close the card. When you open it, the oval should pop up!
3. Make the Months
With an adult, find a 2022 calendar with all 12 months online. Print it out, and cut each month out. Or, see the Slide Show and copy that calendar down with a pen and paper!
4. Add the Months
Each pop-up page gets two months. One goes on the left side of the fold, and the other goes on the right side. For example, the first page has January on the left and February on the right. The next is March and April. Continue until all six pages have two months each!
5. Design the Pages
This is where you get creative! You can design your calendar your own way — or copy News-O-Matic’s calendar. You can draw hearts for your January and February page for Valentine’s Day. And a flower could mark the start of spring on your March and April page.
6. Decorate the Pages
Decorate the space around the pop-ups too! You can design it however you want. For example, News-O-Matic drew flowers and a rainbow for May, an ice cream spoon for June, a beachy scene for July and August, fall leaves for September, and so on!
7. Put It All Together
Glue or tape the pages together. Attach the back of February to the back of March. Attach the back of April to the back of May. Continue until all the pages are connected. Your calendar should stand up on its own. See the video for extra help!
