People scroll along with TikTok. The app launched in 2018. Since then, users have had fun posting videos. Now, TikTok has more fans than ever. On Monday, TikTok made an announcement. The app passed 1 billion users!
TikTok posted a video to celebrate. “Over 1 billion people come to TikTok to be entertained,” Vanessa Pappas said. She is a TikTok leader. “Thank you.”
TikTok had 55 million users back in 2018. Last summer, the app hit 689 million users. More than 300 million people started using TikTok in the past year! Some experts think this is because of the pandemic. More people stayed home. They turned to TikTok for entertainment.
The app’s growth has challenged other sites. For example, Instagram has been around since 2010. That app also has about 1 billion users. And it hit phones eight years before TikTok. In 2020, Instagram launched Reels. This move was to with TikTok. Reels lets users share more videos.
TikTok may keep growing. Or perhaps a new app will steal the scrolls. But for now, the company seems happy.
“We couldn’t do this without you,” Pappas added. “So thanks a billion for making TikTok a special place!”
