Water in the Moon?

A new study says that the Moon may be full of water!

In the 1960s, people blasted off to the Moon! NASA’s Apollo missions sent astronauts there. One of the goals was to look for water. Scientists found small amounts of water in moon rocks. But on Monday, a study said the Moon may have a lot of water inside!

Scientists in Providence, Rhode Island, wrote the report. They used satellites. The data showed that some areas of the Moon have trapped water. The water is in glass beads. The beads formed from magma.

Ralph Milliken wrote the report. “This tells us that there is water deep inside the Moon,” he told News-O-Matic. “It is not water ice or rivers or lakes or anything like that. It is water molecules mixed in with all of the rock stuff.” Milliken added, “Now the big question is ‘how did it get there?’”

This isn’t the first discovery of water on the Moon. In 2008, Alberto Saal found small amounts of water in moon rocks. But the satellite data shows proof of water all across the Moon. That means the water isn’t just in one spot!

This find could give clues about how the Moon formed. It could also affect future space missions. If astronauts could get water from the Moon, they wouldn’t have to bring it with them. They could also stay longer!
