Hispanic artists have made their mark. Check out some top creators!
Four artists made history. They were Frank Romero, Carlos Almaraz, Roberto de la Rocha, and Gilbert Luján. The men started the artist group Los Four. In 1974, Los Four got its own exhibition at a California museum. That was the first time a Mexican-American art show starred at a major museum!
Most people knew Selena by her first name. The star was born in Lake Jackson, Texas, in 1971. She started singing as a child. Selena spoke English. But her father taught her to sing in Spanish. Her music was famous in both languages. Selena’s Dreaming of You is the top Latin album in the United States!
Lin-Manuel Miranda is a writer, composer, rapper, and actor. He wrote the 2015 musical Hamilton. He also worked on songs for Moana. Miranda won a lot of awards. He helps Puerto Rico too. Miranda raised money after Hurricane Maria hit last year.
Duncan Tonatiuh is an author and illustrator. His website says he is “both Mexican and American.” His stories show that. One book is Dear Primo: A Letter to My Cousin. One cousin lives in the United States. And the other calls Mexico home.
Selena Gomez started as a TV actress. She played Alex Russo on the Wizards of Waverly Place. She starred in movies. That includes Hotel Transylvania. Gomez even started a music career. The star does charity work too. She helps children in need!
